Artist Statement
This series "New Mexican Landscapes" is based on the spirtual experience I had, when I first encountered the desert, they are of great importance to me, because they are autobiographical. Never before had I experienced the profound vastness of nature, realizing how minuscule I was. I could barely comprehend what I was seeing, massive tumultous clouds, budding up against clear skies. I watched the warm light shine down over the land, in awe of its magnitude and brilliance; I knew I was witnessing something divine.
In the solitude of the desert I had the ability to quiet myself, taking in, the raw uncensored footage of my surroundings, feeling truly connected with the environment. I was fascinated with the world and thankful to be apart of it.
As an artist, I knew that that this is what life was is all about. I then, set out to create a body of work capturing the desert, the isolation and stillness, the warm atmospheric light, ensuring I would never forget the profound experience I had in the desert.
